Unraveling the global teleconnections of Indian summer monsoon clouds: expedition from CMIP5 to CMIP6

چکیده

We have analyzed the teleconnection of total cloud fraction (TCF) with global sea surface temperature (SST) in multi-model ensembles (MME) fifth and sixth Coupled Model Intercomparison Projects (CMIP5 CMIP6). CMIP6-MME has a more robust realistic (TCF SST) pattern over extra-tropics (R ~ 0.43) North Atlantic 0.39) region, which turn resulted an improvement rainfall bias Asian summer monsoon (ASM) region. can better reproduce mean TCF reduced dry (wet) on land (ocean) ASM respect to seasonal rainfall, TCF, outgoing longwave radiation (OLR) are improved Indian Summer Monsoon (ISM) region by ~40%, ~45%, 31%, respectively, as compared CMIP5-MME. Further, demonstrates spatial correlation observation/reanalysis. The present study also shown lag correlations analysis, i.e., June–September (JJAS) rainfall/TCF October–December (OND) SST from observation/reanalysis, CMIP5-MME, CMIP6-MME. performs than CMIP5-MME results establish credibility CMIP6 models provide scientific basis for improving prediction ISM.

Is the Indian summer monsoon stable against global change?

[1] The stability of the Indian summer monsoon is investigated by means of a box model of the tropical atmosphere. At the heart of this model is the moistureadvection feedback which allows for the existence of two stable regimes: besides the ‘‘wet’’ summer monsoon, a stable state exists which is characterized by low precipitation. The model is employed for the identification of changes in the q...

Intermodel spread of East Asian summer monsoon simulations in CMIP5

In this paper we diagnose the intermodel spread in the Coupled Model Intercomparison Project Phase 5 (CMIP5) East Asian summer monsoon (EASM) simulations in the context of the moist static energy and moisture budgets. We find that the spatial distribution of the EASM precipitation simulated by different models is highly correlated with the meridional stationary eddy velocity, defined as the dev...

Impact of variability in the Indian summer monsoon on the East Asian summer monsoon

We report on model experiments that support the hypothesis that the second mode of variability of the East Asian Summer Monsoon is influenced by the variability of the Indian Summer Monsoon. The results suggest that the recent trend towards drier conditions in northern China in summer is, at least partly, a consequence of the synchronous drying trend over India in summer noted by some authors. ...
